Race Operations Director

Remote Position | Full Time | Salary: ~$60-70,000/year (event dependent)

**Local to Southern Utah or willingness to relocate preferred

Vacation Races is an endurance event company that hosts running events at National Parks around the country and in stunning locations around the globe.

Position Overview

The Director of Race Operations will work under the direction of the Event Director and will manage everything related to the production of the race itself. This job will have responsibilities at both our Road and Trail races.


Manage all aspects of Race Operations and Race Production under the direction of the Race Director.

  • Pre Event
    • Meet weekly with the Event Director to establish specific duties related to the race. The specific pre-event responsibilities for each event will vary at the discretion of the Event Director. Possible duties include, but are not limited to:
      • Securing permits
      • Establish plans for shuttles, race communications, aid stations, and parking
      • Recruit volunteer groups to help with parking and aid stations
      • Securing vendors for timing, portable toilets, rental trucks, equipment rentals, road control, trash processing, law enforcement, medical staff, race communications, etc
    • Hire and meet regularly with a race committee who will help with event execution
  • Event Week
    • Pick up rental trucks and load all needed equipment
    • Manage event setup including course marking, aid stations, start and finish lines, etc. This often requires extensive problem solving under extreme pressure.
    • Start the race, respond to problems during the event, and ensure that participants are taken care of after they cross the finish line.
    • Once the race is over, load all equipment responsibly and drive trucks back to HQ. 
  • Post Event
    • Ensure all vendors have been paid and report back to the Event Director on how things went, including any problems that were encountered and how those problems were handled.

All applicants should have basic technology skills. (phone, email, spreadsheet and word processing) as well as the ability to lift 50+ pounds. 

Previous race and event production experience is required. There will be opportunities for promotion to event director after a year or two, depending on the candidate.

This job requires travel up to 30x per year. Candidates in Washington County, UT or a willingness to relocate to Southern Utah are preferred.
