How To: Defer to Next Year

Refund policy details

To defer to the next year's event do the following:

  1. Sign in to your profile at RunSignUp.com/Profile
  2. Click Manage Registration next to the registration that you would like to transfer your event for
  3. Click the Defer menu item

This will remove you from this year's race and put you on the deferral list for next year's race. After a week or two, you'll receive a deferment coupon that you can use to register for next year’s race (or any of our other races).

Questions or Comments?

  • Michelle Jones says:

I just realized you can do a deferral for a race. Is there any way I can get credit for a race that I didn’t defer on,but didn’t get to attend either?

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Michelle – Deferments need to happen prior to the race. Unfortunately, once the race has occurred you are no longer able to defer it. Please email info@vacationraces.com if you have any questions about the policy.

  • Julie Ward says:

I inadvertently signed up for the 55k and meant for the 50 mile. (Antelope Canyon). How do I change it?

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Julie – I switched your event and emailed you an invoice for the price difference.

  • Michelle Valley says:

I am registered for the Grand Teton Half on 6/2/18. I emailed customer service on 5/7/18 requesting info on how to transfer my registration, including a charity bib, to next year’s race because I broke my foot. I never received a response to my email. After spending some time tonight looking on the site, it appears there is a deferment option where I could defer to next year’s race, but when I try and choose that option it will not allow me to do so. Help please!

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Michelle – A response to your email was sent on May 10th as follows:

I’m sorry to hear about your injury – I hope you heal quickly! You can transfer your registration to any of our other races, including this one next year. Find out more about these options here.
You can sell your bib to another runner but since the race isn’t sold out it might be hard to find someone. You can read more about that option in that same link.

However, it looks like you are registered for a charity bib. Charity bibs can only transfer if the full amount has been raised prior to the deferment. Otherwise, the amount raised will be donated and you are welcome to register for another charity bib next year.

      • MICHELLE VALLEY says:

Thank you for responding. I am not sure why, but I did not receive your response.

It is fine to donate the current amount raised to this year’s race, that’s not what I am concerned about. I am also not concerned about the registration fee I paid, but what I am trying to avoid is nothing being done so that I’m still registered for tomorrow’s race and my card is charged for the balance of the charity bib that was not raised. I did not try and raise money after I broke my foot. I would like to run next year’s Grand Teton Half. I am unable to do anything online, so who needs to remove me from tomorrow’s race, donate the current bib donations, and ensure I am not being charged for the balance of the bib?

        • Kaelee Clifford says:

HI Michelle – Your card will not be charged for the balance. You should have receive an invoice for the balance – I will cancel it.

  • Kim Wells says:

I’m trying to defer my registration to next year, for myself and another participant I registered. I logged into RunSignUp, selected Profile, and selected Manage Registration. On the “Choose Event” dropdown list, Grand Teton is listed, but can’t be selected. How do I complete the Transfer?

    Thanks.

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Kim – It sounds like you are trying to do a race transfer rather than a deferment. You will need to follow these instructions to defer your registration:

      1. Sign In to RunSignUp
      2. Go to your Profile
      3. Click Manage Registration next to the registration that you would like to transfer your event for
      4. Click the Defer menu item

You will receive an email in a day or so with a deferment code that can be used to register for next year’s race with once registration opens.

  • Charlie Sperry says:

Just deferred my Bryce entry until next year due to hamstring injury over the long weekend, so disappointed, especially this close to the race date. Arghh! Sorry for any inconvenience to the race organizers this late.

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Charlie – Sorry you weren’t able to make it to the race – see you next year!

Hi Jennifer – You should have received an email with a deferment code to register with. If you don’t have this code please email info@vacationraces.com and Kaelee can resend your code.

  • Kelly Moore says:

I registered for the 2017 Rocky Mountain Half Marathon but had to defer. I paid the fee to do this. Unfortunately, I have to defer again, but when I tried to follow the directions it said I wasn’t registered for any event. 1) What happened to my deferral? And 2) How do I defer to 2019? I really want to run this half.

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Kelly – It looks like you didn’t use the deferral code that was emailed to you to register for this year’s race. You can use that code to register for next year’s race – I have extended the expiration date. If you need the code resent, please email info@vacationraces.com.

  • Darci Ladwig says:

I tried to defer my Glacier Marathon Registration. It looks like I was charged $20, but then I was given a message that I had no race to defer. Please advise.

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Darci – Your registration has been successfully deferred, which means your registration will not show up in RunSignUp. You will receive an email later this week with a deferment code that you can use for any of our races, including this one next year.

  • Erin DeLoe says:

I had to defer my Bryce race due to illness. I have not received an email yet with the deferment code.

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Erin – You should have received a deferment email yesterday. If you didn’t receive it, please email info@vacationraces.com and Kaelee will help you.

  • Laura Lopez says:

I am unable to race in the Rocky Mountain Half marathon in/Estes, Colorado on Aug. 4 when I checked My Races I do not see my event registered. Please advise. Thank-you Laura Lopez

  • Meredith Patton says:

When am I able to use the deferral coupon to secure my spot in next year’s Grand Circle Trailfest? What is the earliest date I can reserve my spot for 2019?

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Meredith – You will be able to register with your deferment code as soon as registration for the 2019 event opens – usually a couple months after the current year’s event.

  • Jonathan says:

So are there any hidden fees to defer like with the race transfer? How much does the deferral coupon cover?

Paid $99 for the Joshua Tree Half, but will only be credited $79 towards transferring to another race and even then STILL have to pay the difference of the race registration.

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Jonathan – The $79 credit is the amount minus the $20 fee. You will have to pay the difference if you are registering for a race that costs more than what you originally paid in registration fees.

  • Bonnie Wilson says:

I deferred the Glacier Half Marathon last year but I don’t remember getting a deferrment coupon. I do see my deferrment on RunSignUp.com. How do I get signed up for another race?

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Bonnie – I have emailed your deferment code to this email address.

  • Vicki says:

Hi, Kaelee, I plugged in my deferment code for the GSM 2019 half marathon as I finished registering. Nothing happened. What did I do wrong???

    • Kaelee Clifford says:

Hi Vicki – I checked your code and it should be working. Be sure you are only registering one runner at a time and don’t check the military box. If you still have trouble with the code, please email info@vacationraces.com and Kaelee will help you out.
