The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) is a single-stage mountain ultramarathon that takes place once a year on either the last weekend in August or the first weekend of September in the Alps. It follows the route of the Tour du Mont Blanc through France, Italy and Switzerland and has a distance of approximately 166 kilometres (103 mi) and a total elevation gain of around 9,600 metres. It's widely regarded as one of the most difficult foot races in the world and one of the largest with more than 2,000 starters. It is one race during a week-long festival based around Chamonix in France. The combined participation in all of the events over the week approaches 10,000 runners.
We are pleased to announce that the 2020 Bryce Canyon 100 and the 2020 Zion 100 mile and Zion 100km have been selected as a qualifying races for the 2021 Western States 100. Runners who complete the Zion 100k within 19 hours or either 100 miler within the time limit for that race will qualify to enter a lottery where the runners for Western States will be selected.
The qualifying period for the 2021 Western States will be from November 4, 2019 through November 8, 2020. The lottery will be held on December 5, 2020 and the race itself will be run on June 26-27, 2021.
