We are sorry for the change, but we think this will be in everyone’s best interest. The forecast is going to be SUPER windy starting around noon. We have underestimated the wind at other events, and it can be a bigger problem than rain, cold or even heat.
We have been monitoring the weather on Smith Mesa here.
The forecast has changed slightly, while the wind While the morning is going to be gorgeous, by noon the wind is going to be 30 mph with gusts up to 44 mph. Starting at 7am will allow everyone to cross the finish line and hopefully off the mesa by the time the wind hits hard. We will continue to monitor any changes to forecast, but the start time change is final.
For you tent campers at the starting line campground, we recommend you do not leave your tent unattended on Saturday afternoon. If you plan to leave the campground after the race, you may want to pull your tent down or there is a high likelihood it won’t be there when you get back. This is not a joke.
For anyone camping off the mesa, the wind isn’t forecasted to be nearly as bad, but use your best judgement.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
